'Bonaparte at Arcole', 1797, (1896). Typogravure after the painting by Antoine-Jean Gros. 'This portrait was painted by Gros in Italy in 1797; at the solicitation of Josephine, Bonaparte sat for it. It was presented to the Louvre in 1883 by Mme Milliet. It is not the painting from which the Longhi engraving was made, but most probably the sketch made from life for the painting'. From Life of Napoleon Bonaparte, Volume I, by William Milligan Sloane. [The Century Co., New York, 1896]
