The Spanish scientific commission observing the passage of Venus through the solar disk, on 6 December 1882, under the presidency of the director of Royal Institute and Observatory of the Spanish Navy, (Real Instituto y Observatorio de la Armada de San Fernando, Spain), Mr. Cecilio Pujazón (1833-1891), Manzanillo, Cuba, 1883. A provisional observatory was installed in the courtyard of the military hospital, at the Plaza del Fuerte, by the sea. This observatory consisted of a hut without roof, in which were placed three equatorial telescopes, one chronograph and three chronometers.
