Saint Teresa of Jesus, 1868. St Theresa of Avila (1515-1582), Doctor of the Church, reports on her reform to Father Ángel de Salazar (c1518-c1596), provincial of the Carmelite Order. The catalogue of the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1871 gives an extract from the Book of Her Life (Chapter XXXVI) written by the saint herself: "...Finally, he ordered me to give an account before the nuns, and I had to do it; as I was at peace within myself and the Lord was aiding me, I gave my account in such a way that neither the Provincial nor those present could find grounds to condemn me."
