Ruins of nunnery, Isle of Iona, Scotland, c1955. The Iona Nunnery was an Augustinian convent of nuns established in 1203. The ruins on the island of Iona in the Inner Hebrides form the most complete remains of a medieval nunnery extant in Scotland. After the Reformation in the 16th century, the priory was dissolved and reduced to a ruin.
