McBrayn's [sic] steamer off shore, Isle of Iona, Scotland, c1955. MacBrayne's, initially known as David Hutcheson & Co., began in 1851 as a private steamship operator. The Caledonian Steam Packet Co. acquired most of the ships and routes of MacBrayne's in 1973, and commenced joint Clyde and West Highland operations under the new name of Caledonian MacBrayne.
