El Pilar Does Not Surrender, 1885. Depiction of the first siege of Zaragoza in 1808. The inhabitants of the city, being intimidated by the French soldiers to abandon their weapons, and entering the church of San Juan de los Panetes and the Catedral-Basílica of Our Lady of the Pillar, unfurl a black flag with the slogan "El Pilar no se rinde". The painting was featured in the Aragonese Exhibition of 1885, where it won a Second Class Medal, and in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1887.
