Meeting of Augustine Adorno with Saint Louis Bertrand in Valencia, c1738. Giovanni Agostino Adorno (1551-1591) with Saint Louis Bertrand (1525-1581) in 1573, in the cloisters of the Convent of Santo Domingo. Louis Bertrand had a revelation about the young Genoese nobleman - who would later become co-founder of the Order of Minor Clerics Regular. Moved by divine power, he prostrated himself before the guest, prophesying that "God had destined him to found a religious order that would bear great fruit for the faithful." To the left of the main composition, two scenes from the founder's life, earlier in time, unfold simultaneously: one presents Saint Caterina Fieschi Adorno, a relative of Adorno, receiving the revelation from God the Father about the future founding work of the minor religious, who appears as a child in the arms of her nurse; the second represents Adorno himself, already a consecrated priest and wearing a cassock, worshipping at an altar. Pedro Rodríguez de Miranda received the commission to paint the canvases for the convent of the Order of the Minor Clerics through Father Aller, a Minor Cleric closely linked to the Royal Palace as confessor to Infante Don Felipe, fourth son of Philip V.
