'Hammersmith Parish Church, in 1820', (c1878). View of St Paul's Church and churchyard in the village of Hammersmith, now part of greater London. The building shown here was constructed in the 1620s, and paid for in large part by Sir Nicholas Crispe (c1599-1666), a wealthy local merchant. In 1898, his remains and his heart were placed in a chest tomb in the churchyard. From Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, And Its Places. The Southern Suburbs, Volume VI, by Edward Walford. [Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, Paris & New York, c1878]
