Lyautey Statue and Town Hall, Casablanca, Morocco, c1955. Hubert Lyautey (1854-1934) was the first French résident général in Morocco. The equestrian statue of Lyautey, by François Cogné, was first displayed at what in 1938 was Place Lyautey (now Muhammad V Square). The building behind is the Court of First Instance, built in traditional Arab style. The statue was later moved to within the walls of the French consulate.
