Longleat House, Warminster, Wiltshire, c1955. Home of the Marquess of Bath. Designed by Robert Smythson, Longleat, built 1568-1580, is regarded as one of the finest Elizabethan country houses in England. The grounds were landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century. Longleat was the first stately home to open to the public, and the estate has the first safari park (opened in 1966) outside Africa.
