Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871): Battle of Saarbrücken (2 August 1870), 1870. The French Army of the Rhine, with General Frossard's 2nd Corps and Marshal Bazaine's 3rd Corps, crossed the German border and engaged the 40th Hohenzollern Rifle Regiment of the 16th Infantry Division, which was defending the city of Saarbrücken (Germany).
