Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871): Battle of Noisseville (31 August 1870), 1870. Prussian troops led by Prince Frederick Charles (1828-1885) defeated French forces under Marshal François Achille Bazaine (1811-1888). The French were forced to retreat to Metz.
