'Exterior of Caernarvon Castle, North Wales', (1931). Caernarfon (Caernarvon) Castle, one of the 'iron ring' surrounding Snowdonia, built in the late 13th and early 14th century by Edward I to suppress potential Welsh rebellions. It withstood sieges in the uprising of 1294-1295 and again in 1403 and 1404 when the castle was besieged by the forces of Owain Glyndwr. Illustration from A History of Everyday Things in England - Done in two parts of which this is the first - 1066-1499, by Marjorie and C. D. B. Quennell. [B. T. Batsford, London, 1931]
