Monument of the Discoveries, Lisbon, Portugal, c1955. Monument on the Tagus River estuary, in Santa Maria de Belém. It was designed by Cottinelli Telmo and unveiled in 1958, and celebrates the Portuguese Age of Discovery (or 'Age of Exploration') during the 15th and 16th centuries. The figure at extreme left is Henry the Navigator (1394-1460).
