Saint Didacus of Alcalá receiving alms, 1604. One of a series of frescoes originally in the Chapel of San Diego de Alcalá, or Herrera Chapel, in the Church of Santiago de los Españoles (San Giacomo degli Spagnoli) in Rome, depicting scenes from the life of Saint Diego (or Didacus) of Alcalá , an Andalusian Franciscan who died in 1463. The fresco paintings were transferred to canvas at the behest of the sculptor Antonio Solá , at the expense of Ferdinand VII , and arrived in Spain in 1851.
