Jocasta intervening between her Sons Eteocles and Polynices, c1840. Plaster relief of Jocasta, Queen of Thebes and mother of Oedipus. Years later, not knowing of Oedipus's identity, she married him and gave birth to Antigone, Eteocles, Polynices and Ismene. She was therefore both the mother and the grandmother of her children.
