The Old Grammar School, Market Harborough, Leicestershire, c1955. Top inscription reads: 'Founded and endowed by Robert Smyth, 1614.' Below: 'By grace are ye Saved through faith and that not of yourselves lest any man should boast.' The timber school room stands on stilts to leave the ground floor open, creating a covered area for the butter market. Smyth, a local man, became Comptroller of the Lord Mayor's Court of the City of London and member of the Merchant Taylors' Company. On the left is St Dionysius Church.
