Penn House, Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, USA, c1900. 18th century building now known as the Letitia Street House, once celebrated as the city residence of Pennsylvania's founder, William Penn (1644-1718). During the 19th century there was a desire to honour Penn with a monument as the two-hundredth anniversary of Pennsylvania's 1682 founding approached, and in 1883 the house was moved from its original location on the along the Delaware riverfront to its current position. However, later research has shown that he never lived there. From Scenic Marvels of the New World edited by Prof. Geo.R. Cromwell. [C.N.Greig & Co., c1900]
