'Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain', c1909. The Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain in Piccadilly Circus, London, was erected in 1892-1893 to commemorate the philanthropic works of Lord Shaftesbury (1801-1885). The monument is surmounted by Alfred Gilbert's (1854-1934) winged nude statue generally known as Eros. From The Studio Volume 48. [London Offices of the Studio, London, 1909-10]
