Letter from John Russell to Edward Maltby, Bishop of Durham, 4th November 1850. Letter commonly known as the Durham Letter written from Downing Street by Russell when Lord John Russell, First Lord of the Treasury, on the aggression of the Pope by his bull establishing Roman Catholic bishoprics in England, and on the Romish tendencies of certain clergymen of the English Church. From the fifth series of Facsimiles of royal, historical, literary and other autographs in the Department of Manuscripts, British Museum: Series I-V. (London, 1899).
