Ironbridge Gorge and Buildwas Power Station, Shropshire, 2001. Ironbridge Gorge, in what is today rural Shropshire, was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Abraham Darby established his iron works at Coalbrookdale in 1708, and in 1778 cast and erected the Iron Bridge, the first cast iron bridge in the world, which is visible towards the centre of this view. The current power station replaced an earlier one built in the 1930s.
