'View of the Great Palace in Oranienbaum', 1758. The palace at Oranienbaum on the Gulf of Finland was built between 1710 and 1726 for Aleksandr Danilovich Menshikov, a prominent statesman and close friend and associate of Peter the Great. The architects were Giovanni Maria Fontana and Gottfried Schaedel. In the 1750s, the palace, by then a royal residence, was remodelled by Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli. Found in the collection of the State Open-air Museum Oranienbaum, Russia.
