Trafalgar Square, London, c1955. View of Nelson's Column and the church of St Martin in the Fields. The column was designed by William Railton to commemorate Royal Navy officer Horatio Nelson's (1758-1805) decisive victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The statue of Nelson was erected on the column in 1843. On the right is the South African High Commission.
