The Four Evangelists, from c.1616 until 1624. The Evangelists are seated together at a table, each engaged in the writing of his Gospel. Matthew’s attribute is an angel, Mark’s a lion. John looks heavenward for inspiration, as his eagle swoops down carrying an inkpot. Except for John, these are rustic elderly men with strongly individualised features.
