South-east corner of the Lady Chapel, Rosslyn Chapel, Scotland, 1893. Rosslyn Chapel, or the Collegiate Chapel of St Matthew as it was to have been, was founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, third and last St Clair Prince of Orkney. Because of its reputed connections with Freemasonry and the Knights Templar, it has been speculated that the chapel is the resting place of the Holy Grail An illustration from A Short History of the English People, by John Richard Green, illustrated edition, Volume II, Macmillan and Co, London, New York, 1893.
