Pall of the Unknown Soldier, London, c1953. Royal School of Needlework exhibition at St James's Palace, held to celebrate the Coronation of Elizabeth II. The white embroidered silk funeral pall, designed by W.D. Caroe, was presented to Westminster Abbey by the Actors' Church Union in memory of their fallen comrades in the First World War. It was used to cover the coffin of the Unknown Soldier which was interred in the Abbey on 11th November 1920.
