Letter from the Viceroy of India to the Governor of Bengal, 18th September 1932. Writing from The Retreat at Mashobra, Lord Willingdon complains to Sir John Anderson; 'that little devil Gandhi is as clever as a barrel load of monkeys.'My dear Anderson, I am writing to ask yr. opinion of one [Sarma?], late editor of the 'Bengali' and now I believe about to start a weekly political journal. He seems to me to be deserving of some honour such as a knighthood, but I don't want to do anything without asking you & anyhow I don't feel sure I cld. do anything for him this time. He seems to me to have stuck loyally to [Good?]: without much recognition & has been much abused by his Hindu friends in consequence. Will you give me yr. views on this [gent?].
