Jan Hus (1369-1415), Czech theologian and philosopher, 1877. Reformer excommunicated in 1410 for propagating the doctrines of Wycliffe. In 1414 he attended the Council of Constance, where he was tried and condemned to the stake as a heretic. This unleashed the Hussite uprising (1419-1434), antecedent of the Wars of Religion. From "Vie Militaire et Religieuse au Moyen Age et à l'Epoque de la Renaissance", Paris, 1877.
