James S. Hathaway; President Kentucky State and Industrial School, Frankfort, Kentucky, 1902. James Shelton Hathaway (1859-1930) was an African-American educator, academic administrator, and publisher. He was the two term president of the Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons (now Kentucky State University).
