'General Janssens at the Battle of Blaauwberg', 1909. The Battle of Blaauwberg, also known as the Battle of Cape Town, was fought near Cape Town on 8th January 1806. Jan Willem Janssens (1762-1838) was a Dutch soldier and statesman who served both as the governor of the Cape Colony and governor-general of the Dutch East Indies.
