Garden corner with a puppy, 1660-1670. Alternative title: Garden Scene with Dog. Mediterranean courtyard garden: a long tiled bench upon which stand large pots with multi-coloured ceramic decoration, in which flowering plants grow; two baskets, one with flowers and the other with bouquets that evoke the biznagas (jasmine bouquets); flowers on the ground; a large flowerpot with carnations and a tree with fruit. In the centre is a wooden and leather armchair upon which sits a little dog. Valencia is famous for its gardens, flowers, and fruit. The painting bears an inscription in Valencian - "Sens dubte que qui a pinta, tenia cinc dits en cada ma" (Without a doubt, whoever painted it had five fingers on each hand) - almost certainly referring humorously to the master's skill in handling the brushes.
