'From Crown To Base of London's Vast Cathedral: The Whispering Gallery', c1935. The Whispering Gallery in St Paul's Cathedral in London, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and consecrated in 1697. The Whispering Gallery, 259 steps from the ground, runs around the interior of the Dome. It gets its name from a quirk in its construction, which makes a whisper against its walls audible on the opposite side. From "Wonderful London, Volume 1", edited by Arthur St John Adcock.
