French Revolutionary Wars: Second Coalition, (1709-1802) - "Battle of Zurich", 1799, (1879). French troops under the command of General André Masséna (1758-1817) fought against the Austrian troops of Archduke Charles in a first battle between 4 and 6 June 1799, ceding the city of Zurich to the Austrians. In a second battle near Zurich on 25-26 September 1799, Masséna's army defeated a Russian-Austrian combined force under General Aleksandr Kórsakov (1753-1840). Russia left the Second Coalition.
