Dr Robert Farquharson of Finzean, 1881. The sitter was the older brother of Joseph Farquharson RA who was a friend of John Singer Sargent. Robert Farquharson was laird of Finzean near Banchory and also the member of Parliament for West Aberdeenshire. When he died in 1918 his brother Joseph became laird of the estate that they had for so long run in partnership.
