Bust of Pope Alexander VIII, c1690, (1881). Etching of a bronze portrait bust of Alexander VIII, made in Italy by Domenico Guidi. Alexander (born Pietro Ottoboni), was Pope from 1689-1691. Here he is wearing the mozetto (or capuccio) round his shoulders, and a stola embroidered with figures of St Peter and St Paul, double eagles, and the papal keys and tiara. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum). [Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, London, 1881]
