Blücher surrenders near Ratkau, 7 November 1806, (1936). 'Kapitulation Blüchers Bei Ratkau, 7 November 1806'. After the Battle of Lübeck, Prussian field marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher (1742-1919) was compelled to surrender at Ratekau (in Germany). He insisted that clauses be written in the capitulation document making it clear that he had had to surrender due to lack of provisions and ammunition. He was allowed to keep his sabre and to move freely, bound only by his word of honour. From "Bilder Deutscher Geschichte", (Pictures of German History), No.12, cigarette card album. [Cigaretten-Bilderdienst, Altona-Bahrenfeld, Hamburg, Germany, 1936]
