Antonio Pérez freed from the prison of the Manifestados by the people of Zaragoza, in 1591, (1864). Antonio Pérez (1540-1611) was royal secretary to Philip II. Accused by the king of having contact with heretics, he was transferred on September 24, 1591, from the Prison of the Manifestados, where he was being held under the jurisdiction of the Chief Justice of Aragon, to the Holy Office under royal jurisdiction. Following rioting by the people of Zaragoza, known as the "Aragon Riots", he was released.
