One of a series of allegories of the different seasons, made for the decoration of the Royal Casino (also called the Queen's Casino), reflecting the fashion for this type of allegorical depiction of temporal cycles, which originated in France during the Revolution. They revived models of decorative figures in flight from classical Roman painting and sculpture.
