Alexandru Averescu (1859-1938), Romanian military leader and politician, 1917. After distinguishing himself as a military commander in World War I and gaining a wide popular following, Averescu was appointed premier of Romania in 1918. He was Prime Minister again in 1920-1921 and 1926-1927, and was made a Field Marshal in 1930.
