Cast of bust of Pseudo-Seneca or Hesiod, (19th century?). This is a cast of a bust often referred to as Pseudo-Seneca. This portrait was originally identfied as representing Seneca but now is thought to probably be a posthumous portrait of Hesiod. The original bust was thought to be a Roman copy of a lost Greek bronze of c200 BCE. There are however almost forty different versions of this bust, many of which were discovered in and around Naples.
