Ferdinand VII in the uniform of a captain-general, c1814. Portrait of Ferdinand VII (1784-1833), King of Spain, wearing a dark blue jacket with gold-embroidered lapels, collar, and crimson facing, with three rows of gold buttons; a white shirt with a high collar and black silk cravat; breeches; and a scarlet silk sash. Round his neck is the insignia of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and on his chest he wears the Grand Crosses of the Order of Charles III and the Order of Isabella the Catholic (both with sashes and plaques) and the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Ferdinand. His right hand rests on his cane, while his left holds his gloves and bicorn hat with a red cockade, gold braid, loop, and button, as well as white plumes. The Order of Isabella the Catholic was instituted by King Ferdinand VII on March 24, 1815.
