Assembly of prelates and doctors of the church held in Anagni, (Italy) in 1256, (1877). Presided over by Pope Alexander IV, (1199-1261). St Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) defending the mendicant orders, attacked by the University of Paris, and victoriously refuting the claims of the French theologian Guillaume de Saint-Amour (1202-1272).
