On the right: noblewoman from Montbrun (Charente, France) being tortured by soldiers whom she had generously welcomed. Left ( below): Jean Arnould, the king's prosecutor in Angoulême, is strangled after having been mutilated several times. On the left ( above): the widow of the public prosecutor of the town's criminal court is dragged by her hair through the streets. After "Theatrum Crudelitatum Nostri Temporis", 1587.
