The Great Martyrdom of Nagasaki, (September 10, 1622), Japan, 1877. On that date, twenty-two missionaries and Japanese Christians were burned. Thirty others, including women and children, were beheaded in the presence of a large crowd. Persecution of Christians. After a Japanese watercolour of the time, preserved in the Church of the Gesù in Rome. From "Vie Militaire et Religieuse au Moyen Age et à l'Epoque de la Renaissance", Paris, 1877.
