King George VI, stained glass window with names of medical staff who attended him, c1955. 'To the Glorious Memory of Our Patron - 1937-1952 - These cared for him in his last illness - Clement Price Thomas, Robert Machray, Peter Kerley, Charles Drew, Cyril Scurr, Peter Jones, William Jayne, Joseph Humble, Sarah Minter, Vera Ream, Doreen Pearce, Ruth Beswetherick, Kathleen Norman, Audrey Patterson, Hilda Ross'. George VI, a heavy smoker, was operated on for lung cancer by surgeon Sir Clement Price Thomas on 23 September 1951. The king died on 6 February 1952. The commemorative window is in the Chapel at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road, Chelsea.
