The Chitral Expedition: with General Gatacre and the Buffs on the march, 1895. The British Army in India. 'From a Sketch by Major R. A. Hickson. This sketch shows the view looking south from the summit of the Lowari Pass. The Buffs started on April 27, at 6 am., and did not reach the far side until 4 p.m. Snow fell during part of the journey. A path was made for the baggage and animals by the men marching in front. On the north side much of the baggage was sleighed down'. From "Illustrated London News", 1895.
