General view of the Castle of Segura from the path to Courts, Segura de los Baños, Province of Teruel, Aragon, Spain, 1870. Its construction dates from the 9th century, erected as a Muslim fortress. It was occupied by the French during the War of Independence. In 1838, during the First Carlist War, (1833-1840), the Carlist general Ramón Cabrera took and fortified the castle. In February 1840, General Espartero's royalist troops managed to defeat Cabrera and liberate the castle. Due to the fighting that took place, the fortification was destroyed.
