St Frideswide - Design for Stained Glass Window, Christchurch Oxford, 1859. The first idea for the design for a stained glass window for the Latin Chapel of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford. Burne-Jones' design tells the story of St Frideswide, patron saint of Oxford. He shows the salient events of her life - from her escape from Algar, Prince of Leicester, to the last scene of her death. The finished window corresponds closely to this drawing but lacks the smooth flow of its continuing narrative.
