A Plain Representation of the Teams and Trams of Coal, brought down to Pillgwenlly, by Samuel Homfray Esq. on Tuesday 18th December 1821, (1821). 'Weight of Coal, 79 Tons 10 Cwt. To Samuel Homfray Esq. The Independent Iron Master & Coal Merchant. Whose Exertions Have Benefited the town & Neighbourhood of Newport by reducing the Price of Coals. This piece is Humbly Inscribed by his Humble Servant In.o [John] Thomas'. Depiction of the record load transported by horse-drawn road train to the Newport suburb of Pillgwenlly. Samuel Homfray (1762-1822) managed the Penydarren iron works and promoted the tramway to Abercynon.
