Boniface VIII, (c1235-1303), Pope of the Catholic Church (1294-1303), 1890. Born Benedetto Gaetani. Pope Boniface VIII ordered James II of Aragon (1267-1327) to take up arms against his brother Fadrique (Frederick II of Sicily), whom he had appointed governor of Sicily.
